White Light

Today is the August link-up for with Everybody Everywear, and this month's theme is monochromatic.  I could have gone in several directions for this; black, red, pink, blue, but ultimately I went with white.  I think the last time I wore white from head to toe was either over a weekend lake trip or to play croquet with some of my best girlfriends the morning of my wedding day.  I have been asked more than once to spin my two cents on wearing white before Easter and after Labor Day.  The only white rule I am completely against breaking is wearing it, or any shade thereof, on someone else's wedding day.  Other than that, I think when played with the right fabrics, in the right doses, you can wear white 12 months of the year.  I have a white leather purse I carry year round.  I especially love it with an otherwise all black ensemble.  Whatever makes you most comfortable, but I think there is no need to 'fit in' a certain mold.

Shirt: Ralph Lauren (old), Shorts: Loft (old), Shoes: Steve Madden. Sunglasses: Blindehere's a similar, less expensive pair. Bag: Coach (old), but here's my favorite current choice. Belt: (vintage), belonged to my Grandmother. Earrings, (vintage), belonged to my Grandmother, Bracelet: from Luna (old), Rings: Tiffany, custom by Diamonds Direct.

For the love of monochromatic styling...
As always, thanks so much for reading!!!  Whitley

  2. I love all of the white but also that little bit of skin makes it so sexy but not trashy which is such a hard balance.

    1. Alissa,
Thank you for this! Because of the cut, this shirt has always shown just a little bit of tummy. I'm pretty conservative, myself.... I'm with you on the fine line, so I am appreciative you noticed it and give your approval. Thanks for taking the time to share! :)

  3. Can I just say you have the most amazing hair! I'm so jealous!! You look gorgeous in all white! I totally agree about having no white rules EXCEPT for a wedding. . .I would never wear white to a wedding or bridal shower, but everything else (and all year round) is fair game!

    1. Thanks girl, for the kind words, and I LOVE that pretty much everyone seems to be on the same page about the white and its rules. I did ask a bride one time what her rehearsal dinner dress was going to be, as I had a vintage cream dress that belonged to my Grandmother and I was thinking of wearing it. One of the dresses she was considering was cream. She didn't end up wearing it, but from that experience I've learned/decided that if there is any question, just steer clear of white for ANY wedding festivity unless you are the bride or unless you were playing croquet with the bride, as in my case :).

    1. Yay!! Thanks Sarah! The belt belonged to my Grandmother. I actually saw the very same belt in another color recently in a vintage store. Had the owner been there, I would have found out what the story is. I wonder if the style is like our modern day ribbon belt, or a pair of Jack Rogers shoes or something?? Thanks for taking the time to comment, and I'm hoping over to visit you now!

  11. I actually like that you chose all white. It's very crisp, clean and sophisticated. I have these shorts in pink and they are super soft and comfortable. Did I mention how tiny your waist looks? I can't believe you have 2 peanuts ;) I may need to ask you for tips one of these days heh
